WHY WAS THE ENTERTAINMENT PACT CREATED?
The digital sector has positive impact on a wide range of sectors: access to political and civic information, culture and entertainment, maintaining close ties with loved ones, improved workplace efficiency. Automation and distance reducing technology is reducing the carbon footprint.
However, the digital entertainment sector’s expansion is leading to a rapid increase in its carbon footprint, growing exponentially at a rate set to make it the biggest single polluter in the near future.
As sustainability in the digital sector is a relatively new subject, scientists will need to explore almost completely innovative areas of research. The Entertainment Pact aims to unite in one movement the brightest minds for the task of finding solutions that will make the digital sector’s infrastructure sustainable.
The Entertainment Pact is to be signed by the industry leaders in the digital entertainment sector, artists, research experts, academics, scientists and sustainable development foundations, in the spirit of uniting forces in a shared mission to oversee the green, zero-waste transition of the digital sector.
WHAT DOES SIGNING THE PACT MEAN?
Signing the Pact is an acknowledgement that this activity is energy consuming and that a plan of action is needed to reduce the carbon footprint and e-waste of the digital entertainment sector.
Far from stigmatizing consumers or digital providers, the Entertainment Pact is fundamentally about providing sustainable optimization solutions for data centers and the digital sector infrastructure, as well as circular economy solutions for e-waste.
Its ultimate goal is for the industry leaders in the digital entertainment sector to become aware of the direct and indirect impact instrumentalized by its activity, to support research based solutions and to make a commitment to working with the greenest partners within the sector.
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE ENTERTAINMENT PACT?
Within the digital entertainment sector, the Entertainment Pact, supported by its alliance, aims to boost and support:
1/ DATA COLLECTION: assemble relevant data on the digital entertainment sector and create an information hub of actionable data.
2/ IMPACT ASSESSMENT: carry out Impact Assessment and establish an impact measurement framework;
3/ RESEARCH INTO SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS: support research by universities & data research laboratories, for domaines of theoretical research including into AI-driven flow optimization, plus all aspects of its technical, operational and infrastructural application and other on-the-ground solutions.
